      University of Wisconsin Press, 2005.

Completed by colleagues and specialists in invasive plants after the author's untimely death in 2003, this identification guide to troublesome species provides a much-needed resource for land managers, naturalists, farmers, gardeners, and scientists in many fields.

An outgrowth of of Elizabeth Czarapata's self-published "Invading Weeds: A Growing Threat to Wisconsin's Biological Diversity," this volume covers the Upper Midwest states of Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and, of course, Wisconsin.

"What began as a simple quest for an educational tool grew into the most comprehensive guide to date on the identification and control of invasive plants in the upper Midwest," writes Kelly Kearns in the book's foreword.

Czarapata was not a professional botanist, but an ambitious schoolteacher active in Wisconsin's environmental community and creator of an invasive plants curriculum for environmental educators. This illustrated guide for professionals and amateurs alike is part of her legacy.
